Just bought a laptop, buying another....

So about 5 months ago I bought an HP DV9000 with a 17" screen, Athlon Turion TL-58, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, GeForce 6150. I still love it, but an opportunity has come around that I would be stupid not to get.

My in-laws are in town. They're the ones I built the SuperBee PC for. My mother-in-law visited me at work and expressed interest in a laptop, more specifically a 17" one.

There's an insane deal on a Gateway M-6824 right now. The specs are Intel Core 2 Duo T-5250, 3GB RAM, and a 250GB HD, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT @ 15.4 inches
. It retails for $1049. The one we have in store is the last one, so when selling a display we subtract 10%, plus my discount is 10%. That's 20% off! But here's the real news: there's a $400 mail-in rebate!!

So, it'll be $845 in store plus TAX. After rebate it'll be $445!!

What we're planning on doing is selling my current 17" laptop to my in-laws for $400 making my new laptop only $45!

    Darn sweet deal!

I need to get another laptop, the one I got I hardly see. My daughter has latched onto it , even thought she has PC, and it is in her room most of the time :-(

    Actually, 10% + 10% is only 19% off... 100%-10%=90%, 90%-10%=81%... But it only makes about a $5 difference. But, again to nitpick, $445 (or $450)+tax-$400 does not = $45/$50.. more like $76/$82..

Also, really. Be a nice guy, don't rip off your in laws. $400?? pfft.

$400 is no rip off. I paid over $600 for it.

Also, there was a price error. The $400 rebate was wrong, it was only $250. They had to override it at the register, so they took 10% and another 10% then the $150 price error. It cost me $729 in store plus the $250 mail-in. That's under $500 for a $1049 laptop!

Still not a bad price for that.
