Making Custom Audio Visual Read out

Anyone tried making a audio visual read out to go in the front of their case? I saw one when Twisted Mods site was up, but it require the use of the serial port. Didn't know if there was another way or not. I've seen the bay devices you can buy but they're not all that cheap in price.

I have alot of electronics knowledge for I have a dregree as a technician. But I didn't know if anyone had a different way of doing something like this. If anyone has ideas please share.

    Text only? or full graphical?

If you just want something to display song names, time track and stuff, check out what Mr_Kholl is doing with his Duna Project (on this site). Duna Project

You talking about a Character LCD like this?

    CrystalFontz http://www.crystalfontz.com/index.html

you can get either a serial or usb for pretty cheap and they can do bar graphs with the right software.

I think tazz made or had one on his Ultra Sweet case. Might look through his thread. I though that Metku Mods had a tutorial on how to do that but I can't find it. haven't seen anything like that in many years.

If you want to make your own LCD screen I do have a wiring write-up for one and with the right software you can get the bar graph for your highs and lows. My write-up is for the printer port only. Most likely being that you are wanting the graph type setup then you'll need a graphic screen instead of a character screen. My write-up is for character screen only. The suggestion for the CrystalFontz is the easiest way to go. They have both serial and USB setups available. I just purchased the USB recently and it works great. They also have the 2 different types of screens available. So check out the site and I'm sure you will find something that you are looking for. Happy Modding to ya.

I use Lcd Studio too on my T6963c LCD but.. heh, too bad because I'm using a paralel (LPT) port so the program takes about 50% to 80% of my CPU clock to do "nothing"
but if you use a USB driven LCD.. that's a whole different story (around 3% CPU usage)
