Sapphire Radeon HD3870X2 Atomic Water Cooled (1GB DDR3)

Sapphire has always shown to be one of the leading brands when it comes to ATI flavored video cards. A few months back, AMD introduced the release of the ATI Radeon HD3870X2 graphics processor. Since that time we have seen several of the board partners offering up their own style. Leave it to Sapphire to drop the hammer and show us something new, the Sapphire Radeon HD3870 X2 Atomic Water Cooled edition. The Atomic HD3870 X2 is the second card to be released under the Atomic name. Shall we see what the Atomic HD3870 X2 can do?

Great review Tazz. Seems like on older systems the difference in these two cards in negligible. I think price is perhaps the only driving factor. Then again I think those cards are worth more than my entire system at this point. I like the cooler on this setup I'm just not too impressed with the temps. maybe I'm asking to much. The cooler sure does look Purdy though.

I needs to gets me one of those briefcase for my Card though....Fo' Sho'. LOL

Yes, that is kind of why I wanted to compare those to specific cards. I wanted to see just how much of a difference there really was on a system similar to mine. I don't feel my rig is that dated, but it definitely isn't at the top of the list.

The pricing is something that I am not sure of at this time. Waiting for Sapphire to get back with me . I am guessing that it will be in the mid 400's or so, but that is just a guess.

Don't let the temps freak you out . Thats kind of why I didnt go into great details. Ambient temps here are well above normal right now at 80+F and climbing. Hitting 80C load temps in this heat is something that I expect to see. Everything here is running about 10 degrees hotter than normal. Hope to fix that problem real soon (I need a new Air Conditioner).

Even still if I take 10 degrees off I'm still not too impressed. When I put a fancy aftermarket cooler on my junk I usually expect to see temps on the 50's or 60's. That's just me though, I'm a little tough to please and as I said. That's probably unrealistic with duelies. Probably isn't a cooler that could do that right now anyhow.

Great review Tazz. Dang nice card, I think however, that pound for pound, the GX2 will still come out on top.

Ok, lol dont get mad at me, I am digging shit up now.

Your HD3850 pulls load temps of 77 when OC'd and Im doing relatively the same temp (taking out the extra 10 I have on the ambient here) with two of the next hotter GPUs on one board mind you.

    Edit: Thanks X

You have an excellent point there. Just two points and then I will agree to your point. My cooler is air and cheap. LOL

Agreed .. From the looks of it, the standard X2 is pushing mid 70's for the average users. So this is about the same with a slightly higher OC. I wish I had another waterblock here, I would have dug in a little further on the topic.
