Thread: USB, Audio Front Panel.

    USB, Audio Front Panel.

I have Front panel that consists of a 2 USB's, Firewire, and then 3 Audio jacks.

This front panel is a metal box, that came out of my HP Pavilion a410e. (I got a new case for modding).

The USB's come out with 2 screws, but the Audio jacks aren't held in by anything but they don't come out.

I was wondering, what do I do the remove the Audio jacks without breaking the board there attached to?

I need the audio panel, or if I don't, then I don't get audio at all.

    Thanks,
    Jimmie.

Like fusinfun said, pictures will help considerably.

If the board holding the audio ports isn't screwed in, then its either going to have some sort of clip holding it or its glued in .

You're not very descriptive I guess. Three situations:
1: You want the physical jack mounted to the PCB
2: You want the PCB out of the case so you can put it elsewhere (most likely)
3: You want the PCB disconnected from the motherboard

    Solutions:
1: The jack its is almost certainly just soldered in. Just get a de-soldering tool.
2: Clips or glue. Prying for glue, snapping off/opening the clips (pictures would in fact help)
3: The wires are usually just plugged in.

I'm pretty sure that it's number 2, but if it's one of the others.. well.. There ya go. Hope it helps.

Just a question but isn't a firewire a waste of space for most people? I'd much rather have had another USB port personally.

I really like having the firewire, for the odd occasion that one of my buddies has a firewire drive, or I need to do a school project -- unfortunately, my media bay has the connection, but the cheapo motherboard doesnt. I suppose I should wire up a trap XD

Ah good point. I'm still used to everything being USB oriented.

What is going on with Firewire. Is it going the way of the SCSI and Betamax? I know a few Mac users who are totally in love with Firewire.

More Betamax than SCSI, as it is better/faster than USB but is dying for lack of support. Device makers don't use it because some motherboards don't have it, and some motherboard makers don't support it because there aren't too many firewire devices and it would be a waste of money. Not that it was ever that big in the first place, though.

Hehe. I have 3 of em - 1 on front panel, 3 on back panel. Never used em, always been ready to go just in case.
