    Radeon HD 4550

The 4800 series salvo fired off from the Red camp and started laying waste to the opposition. The offshoot of all of those performance products is that the same technologies "trickle down" into the budget segment. Is the HD4550 the benefactor of it's higher performing siblings, or is it one of those "embarrassing cousins" that you just wish would go away?

Great review TD. Love the personality you throw at your reviews. Makes it fun to read. I personally would have liked to see a bit of gaming benchmarks but really this card is not built for that. I just have curiosity of what it would do. I know it would be rather low but you know. curiosity. Your 3D mark scores are right in line with my X1900 (a little lower but notmuch) and my son can play COD4 just fine with it. Which may or may not translate into this card being able to play the game with lowered settings. That might be just fine for the casual HTPC gamer. I rarely play games on mine as I find it uncomfortable but different strokes you know.

    anyhoo, great review.

I am actually trying to replace my 7800GT (the BFG overclocked version) with a good ATi card... this worth looking at? I don't remember how my card stacked up to the X1900.

Whats you budget? You might look at some of the reviews whe have done on other Sapphire Cards. The 4550 that T-D reviewed more towards the HTPC / Home desktop range and not for hardcore gaming. Our review of the next one up from the 4550, the 4650, will be online shortly.
