    4870x2

Anyone have one? I'm thinking about purchasing one, but I'm worried it might be a bit of overkill for a 1680x1050 (22&#34 + 1280x1024 (19&#34

Probably only do gaming on one screen, because I can't handle the huge monitor bar thing.

Should I just buy a 4870 and use the extra money for a new mobo+CPU) and assorted fans/heatsinks?

    Current Setup:

    BFG 7800GT OC (PCIE)
    5600+ X2 (2.9ghz dual core)
    ECS crapboard
    8gb of DDR2 @ 800mhz (do lots of photoshop)

I personally don't care for dual core cards. I'd much prefer just one more powerful card but I'm not sure what exactly that would be. You'd think you'd have it covered though with one 4870 depending on what you play it might be overkill.

Me, personally I'd buy a new mobo+CPU, do a general upgrade, or save the money.

I agree with Shel on this on. The $ to performance ratio to me is not worth it. Don't get me wrong seeing the frame rates going up with 2 gpus is cool and great for bragging, but I have not personally found it compelling.

ok good, thanks for the reality check. My 7800 is just struggling a bit (maybe 30 fps avg) on pretty low settings, so I figured its probably time for an upgrade.

simple solution.. get a 9800.. or two for rock bottom prices.. that will tide you over for a bit..

start with one.. because your CPU isent much faster then mine.. and even with my dual 8800gts.. ive "surpassed" the cpu.. causing the gpu to be FORCED to slow down because of the bottle necking the cpu is causing..

id hate to see you buy some 2 higher end cards.. and suffer the same fate.. getting no real boost becuase of the weaker CPU and not have the money to upgrade the mobo and cpu.

gods.. id KILL for a new mobo and cpu right now :P
asus an9 fatal1ty and a weakling amd 5200+ 64.. running on xp no less.. which doesent really recognize dual cores.. nor runs properly in a 64 bit format.. so im only getting 1/4th my cores power.. and it really hurts on the benchmarks.

you sir, are in dire need of an upgrade. Tell you what: I'll trade you a (legitimate with key) copy of vista 64 (business ed) for an 8800 (mostly kidding).

fusion... i woudlent take your copy of vista if you payed me 20,000$ to use it :P more or less give up my perferly matched PNY xlr8 8800gt x2. ive not heard one good thing about ANY version of vista. i may need an upgrade but you need to be shot for trying to give me an os that dont work :P
at least on XP my computer starts up on a regular basis.
much thanks for the offer any ways.

and to lone wolf.. im guessing that your asking fusion to check the link out..a s i can run crysis at about 23fps on the high settings.
i actually spent the money to get the game JUST to test my computer :P

games gorgeious.. screens make for a great desktop.. but the game itself is average at best gameplay wise.

I run Vista on all four of my systems (2 w/ 32bit, and 2 w/ 64bit). I have no problems at all on any of the rigs.

    Core i7 920 w/ GTX 280
    E8400 w/ GTX 295
    Q6600 w/ 2x 9800GX2
    AMD 5600+ w/ 8800 GTS 512
