I am still undecided on what direction I will be going with this mod. I do have a few cool ideas I want to try and implement but time will tell if I can pull them off with in the budget. Be sure to check back and see how my fellow modders and I progress.

Well I guess I better get to playing catch up seeing everyone else has started progressing along. Most have probably figured out by the above picture that I am going for a 32 Ford style of mod.

One of the main focal points I wanted to focus on was the front grill look. Although it's not going to be a replica, I do plan on getting fairly close to the design.

So I start out by making a new frame for the door and recessing the hinge and stop locations appropriately. I use a piece of 10-ply 1/2" playwood. This has a fairly smooth finish on both sides and can be found at Hobby Lobby.

Next I broke out the Bass wood and started making the outer trip pieces. This includes (1x Top, 1x Bottom, 2x Sides, 2x Centers, and 21x Uprights). Looking at the Top piece you can see I have lines laid out on it. With this being Bass wood it didn't want to bend to well to conform to the curve of the top of the frame. I cut through about 1/2 of the 1/16" Bass wood to relieve part of the pressure, this allowed the piece to bend in place a lot easier.

Once I had all the main pieces glued in place, I started cutting and gluing in the uprights one at a time. This was the slowest part of the process trying to keep them straight and glue them in 4 different spots.

I still have a little tweeking to do and then its ready to be sanded, sealed, and painted.

    Great start!

Please tell me you are going to put some bug-eye headlights on this case?

Thanks fusinfun, I haven't really thought about headlights yet. I want to see how things turn out for the rest of it first. Have to watch the budget .

Got a little more work done on the grill...

    Primed and sanded.

Started the painting process. To achieve a semi-chrome look on the grill I shot it with some Alclad II Gloss Black, then after letting it dry for a day, I shot it with some Alclad II Chrome. These paints are generally used on models but seems to be working out decent for my purpose.
