KISS / Gene Simmons Destroyer Boot - KISSBOOTER - Completed

You wanted the best, You got them. The hottest band in the land....

    BOOM! FLASH! FIRE! Rock-N-Roll!

Hey don't knock it! I have been going to concerts for the last 32 years (first one was when I was 15 and it was Van Halen... the REAL Van Halen not that crappy Van Hagar S#%*...) and the best stage show has always been KISS. Yes they are one of my favorite bands with simple lyrics and sound but if has a something that does rock you. Who doesn't know Rock-n-Roll All Nite?

And like every other fan you got to say that the Demon "Gene Simmons" is the most colorful member of the band with the fire spitting, blood spewing and costumes. One of the things that I thought was cool was his boots on the cover of Destroyer.

Would it not be cool to have a PC inside of on of those boots? Of course you can't get everything inside one of them, so I will have to make my own KISS Boot Case!

    And the journey begins.....

I saw Kiss 3 times in Montreal so this mod has a special place in my heart. I can't wait to see how you bring it to life!

KISS / Gene Simmons Destroyer Boot - KISSBOOTER - Completed

So being a KISS fan I of course have some "Action Figures" of the band and the one I will be using to base my case mod off of is a 12 inch tall Gene Simmons. Here are two images of the boots.

Now remember this is going to be housing computer hardware so there will have to be changes made to accommodated the hardware, but I am going to do my best to keep the look as close as possible. Lets jump back to the boot mock up in Sketch Up. I based my design off of using full size hardware such as the motherboard, psu and such. Location of the hardware will change as I make and test fit stuff.

Since there will not be a lot of space I needed a rather small case and lucky for me I hardly through away computer stuff. I found an old small case in my shed.

The perfect thing about this one was that the motherboard tray pulls out. What a lucky find as everything will have to come out the back of the boot.

Time to strip this thing down...

Even thought the case is already small I need it to be smaller to put inside of the boot that I will be making. The PC will be in a frame while the boot will go around it.

So I need to make the case a few inches less deep. I probably could have made it smaller, but I wanted to be able to use full size hardware ware. I will take it right up to the limit.

Got to take it apart so out comes the drill and drill out the rivets.

You can see where I need to cut both ends off at

The scroll saw made quick work of the cutting

    Trimmed down...

    and put back together.

Next on the list is where do I put the CD/DVD drive and HD and have access to them?

I agree with you 100% about Van Hagar AF!

You might also want to send a few pics to Kiss' record label too. I know it used to be Casablanca (showing my age lol) but not sure who it is now.
Even if you didn't like them musically, you had to admit they always had the best stage show! I never got to see them in person but I've seen a ton of footage from bootleg concert tapes.

This is a great mod idea that you could actually do a series of for each of the band members .

So here is the idea I came up with. Since the power supply will be located somewhere else in the boot then why not use the old area in the new smaller case. All I want is a single drive and a DVD Rom and guess what....

    It will fit...after some cutting.

right now I will use the HD cage from the case but will probably end up making a better one later.

I think this will work just fine :-)

Next I need to make the base of the boot.

OMG has it really been that long since I did an update to this work log?! I guess that is what happens when you run a modding site, you do not to get to mod too much for yourself.

Anyways... there are updates to happen here as I have finished the mod to about 98% and I really like how it turned out and it should be a pretty cool HTPC.
