    Project: Industrial Revolution

    HUGE UPDATE!!

I spent the majority of a whole day off working on this computer case and accomplished a lot.

I told at friend at work that I hated the way that the drive bays looked above the DVD drive, so he came up with a great idea. Since this case is supposed to look like an old factory why not make the area above the DVD drive look like a room within the factory?

    Let's do that!

First I used these longer popsicle sticks to rest on the bay above the DVD drive. This way, the "floor" won't be destroyed if I have to slide out the DVD drive

Then I cut out a whole lot more to fit the bay

I bought this easy application wood stain

And stained the "floor" to look like something you'd see in an old building

I got this boiler on ebay that belongs on a Steam train. It just looked like something you'd see in a factory of this period. It came in all black, so I added a few copper accents

I used this really thin oak to make the side walls

I was thinking of how to make the walls look as they may have back in the "old days" and thought that a factory probably would have been made of brick. I only had this adhesive rock that was beige

    So I painted it red!

And then put it in the bay with the boiler

I also thought it would be cool to add some more copper pipes. This is where the case originally had a lock

I dissected this water stop valve for parts

And screwed part of it into place

Next, comes another valve. This one was originally brass colored so I had the repaint it copper

Once it dried, I threaded it to the other. For all of these fittings, I always add an epoxy within the joints

    Now I need more pipes

And that only took about 2 minutes

Let's get back to the room. I cut out a piece of plexi for the front window

And then framed it out with some more sticks around the edges

I still have to go over the edges of the brick wall with some more red paint

Score on the Micro Center action, make sure they have your name and number or better yet some cheap business cards around. It worked wonders for me and custom server builds!

I got the PC Power & Cooling 600 Watt PSU again, the same one I used in my kid's Purple HAF

I had to get rid of the stickers first

Then make the paint match the case. There goes the warranty....

Once dried, it went in the case

I thought it made more sense if the factory sign had some kind of brace holding it up

I picked up the heatsink I want to use today. I chose the same one I did for my kids' Purple HAF. I like the design and the option to use a 140mm fan

I repainted the 120mm fan it came with

And swapped it for the 140mm exhaust fan

Because I need that one for the heatsink

Since I don't have the board for it to mount on, I'll move to the media card bay which I decided against using a card reader

That's looking very nice. I have used that flec' paint before, takes forever to set, but once it does it very durable and has a nice look. I also like the copper contrast with it. May I suggest you take some dark red paint and dry brush those brick sheets in the Boiler room. It will give it a weathered look and add some depth.

I look forward to the final product, keep the good work.

Just wanted to say that this mod is completed for the most part. The case has been taken into my job at Micro Center where it will become a permanent department terminal. I'll take some pics once the store pays to have it filled with components

Really like and appreciate what you did with your "Build Your Own" sign. It looks just like the old building sign supports from the 20's, 30's and 40's. Very nice touch!!
