And a shot of the test rig/work space:

This is what I had to go through to mount water blocks to the GPUs; the GTX 670 sure is small:

I ran into a problem, the blocks wouldn't fit the GTX 670s! This dumb piece of metal is getting in the way of a perfect mount! This is not how the reference pictures looked, it really derailed progress while I thought about coming up with a solution:

At first, I was going to scrap the project and get new GPUs, I even browsed to see if Titans were in stock. Then, I decided to take my anger out on the blocks via the Dremel, haha! If the blocks wouldn't fit, I would MAKE them fit! The result:

I wrapped the 670s in an anti-static bag to protect them from sparks and debris flying all over the place:

Not pretty. Not pretty at all, yet, it worked. Blocks fitted:

Time to drain the old GPU loop:

Here are the GTX 480s being retired from duty; good show, ole chaps, good show!:

    Mobo clear:

Stupid dual slot GPU design caused me to lose a PCI and PCIe x4 slot. This means that I could no longer use my PCI sound card and my Intel NIC. So, out with the HT Omega Claro Halo PCI sound card, and in with the ASUS Xonar Essence STX PCIe card (for the 4th PCIe slot). I'll have to use the onboard network interface, hope that I get good performance out of it! Anyway, here's the PCIe sound card that I had to take out of my HTPC (gotta order another one, until then, it's onboard to drive my HTPC's $400 HiFiMAN HE-400s, DOH!):

Whilst 'buttoning up' the new GPU loop, I decided to throw in a t-line for 'easier' draining the next time that I have to drain the loop:

After a crazy day of modding and trying to get around numerous unexpected problems, the new GPUs are finally in:

I had no idea if the GTX 670s would even work after this, the modding process was very involved and very, very violent. However, these GTX 670s have been very resilient and pulled through! That was the ugliest, most intense modding that I've ever had to do. I really had to focus in on not damaging capacitors, VRMs, connections, etc. It was 'down-to-the-detail' modding in the most 'under-the-microscope ' situation that you can imagine, and I didn't have a microscope, lol.
