This is something that not a lot of people want to take the time to do. I have seen some pretty nasty keyboards over the years. Just think how many germs are on that crusty keyboard of yours. Well in this guide I will show an example of how to properly take apart your keyboard and clean it. I know this will not match all keyboards, but the idea is the same for all.
Page 1:
For this how to I will be using my Inland ergonomic keyboard that I picked up a few years back for around $20.00. It is a rather generic keyboard but gets the job done. I wish there where more options out there for those of us that do prefer ergo keyboards over the standard. Till then I will stick with my Inland.
First things first we need to give the rear of the board a quick glimpse to see what is needed to remove the covers. On this board there are two items to unscrew before you can get the outer cover to come off.
First up is the small cover that hides the wires and aids in holding the rear buttons/LEDs to the main board. This requires removing six (four black and two silver) screws marked by the yellow arrows.
The rear cover removed.
With the cover removed you now see the wires and the mounting screws for the rear section. If you notice there is a screw under the wires. There is also one under the rear section meaning we need to remove it to get the main cover off.
