Sapphire Radeon HD3870X2 Atomic Water Cooled (1GB DDR3)

 Description:

Sapphire has always shown to be one of the leading brands when it comes to ATI flavored video cards. A few months back, AMD introduced the release of the ATI Radeon HD3870X2 graphics processor. Since that time we have seen several of the board partners offering up their own style. Leave it to Sapphire to drop the hammer and show us something new, the Sapphire Radeon HD3870 X2 Atomic Water Cooled edition. The Atomic HD3870 X2 is the second card to be released under the Atomic name. Shall we see what the Atomic HD3870 X2 can do?

 First Impression:

The Sapphire HD 3870 X2 comes pre-packed in a large briefcase style box with the Atomic logo on the side. I'm not sure what the purpose behind the briefcase is, but can see a few instances where it could come into play.

Opening up the briefcase you will be greeted with a cover over the HD 3870 X2 Atomic, which gives you some of the basic information for the card. Under that you will find the Handling and Installation paper, with the the cooler and card nicely tucked in foam just below.Once you remove the cooler/card setup you will find the box of accessories under the middle layer of foam.

Due to the card having the water cooling pre-installed, the anti-static bag is just loosely slid over the card. With the bag removed you will get your first glance at the massive HD3870 X2 card. The HD 3870 X2 measures in at roughly 27cm length, which is the same as a Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX. Looking at most of today's board designs, its simply amazing that AMD/ATI was able to combine two RV670 chips, CrossFire bridge chip, two sets of 512MB of memory, and an advanced power circuit all on one board.

The accessories box contains the software discs (3DMark 06, DVD Suite, Power DVD, and the Installation Driver CD), 2 x Molex - PCI-E adapters, 2 x DVI - VGA connectors, 1 x DVI - HDMI connector, 1 x Cross Fire bridge, 1 x S-Video - RGB connector cable, and 1 x HDMI cable. That will cover everything you need for the installation of the Sapphire HD3870 X2 Atomic.
