BlacX and BlacX-SE HDD Docking Stations

Sponsor: Thermaltake

Price: 39.99 USD and 49.99 USD (Newegg)

Author: XcaliburFX

Published: Fri, Jun-20-2008

 Description:

Today we are going to be taking a look at a pair of Thermaltake Hard Drive Docking Stations. They are both from the BlacX model line and unfortunately they both ended up in two different reviewers hands. So we thought, why not let them both do the review? So for your reading pleasure, XcaliburFX and Tazz will be giving you a double dose today of the Thermaltake BlacX line of hard drive docking stations.

 First Impression:

~XcaliburFX~ Says:   Today you guys are in for a treat. Tazz and I are going to be reviewing a pair of products from Thermaltake. We both received a Thermaltake BlacX Hard Drive Docking station which are slightly different from each other. We figured we would do the reviews slightly different, Tazz is going to be talking about the Thermaltake BlacX-SE (P/N N0029USU) Hard Drive Dock, while I will be talking about the Thermaltake BlacX (P/N N0028USU) Hard Drive Dock. Tazz, why don't you tell us a little about Thermaltake?

Tazz Says:

When you hear the name ThermalTake, if you're like most people, you instantly think of cooling products or computer cases. Thermaltake is a company that is well diversified in the computer component and accessory industry. They have a wide variety of products that just about anyone looking for computer hardware could use. If you don't believe me you should really check out the product list at the Thermaltake website.

Well X, seeing that you have the earlier version of the BlacX, I will let you have the pleasure of starting things off for us. Luckily the readers will not have to hear any of this "who's got the biggest Dock" statements since their relatively the same size.

~XcaliburFX~ Says:   Yeah well, mine looks better. ;) lol

... Ok, back to my Thermaltake BlacX. The BlacX came packaged in the typical retail packaging you expect from Thermaltake. It was shrink wrapped and the box inside was tape sealed, no surprises here. The box itself was a deep black with a big fiery X ... what's not to like about that lol. The front of the box has a picture of the BlacX and decent enough description to let the consumer know at a glance what they were looking at. The back has a couple more pics and a list of the features and the specifications. Inside the box we find that everything is wrapped in plastic and even the BlacX itself is in bubble wrap. In short everything we need is included inside the box; the Power Adapter, USB cable, Instruction booklet, and the BlacX.

Tazz Says:  X you know the X in BlacX doesn't stand for XcaliburFX right?

Like X's BlacX Docking Station, the BlacX SE comes in a information box which provides the needed information. The specifications on the BlacX SE are just about the same as the BlacX as well. The only real difference between the two is the fact that the BlacX SE has a 4-Port USB hub built into the front of it. Included with the BlacX SE is the USB cable, power cable, and the user manual. I guess it's time to get the specifications for the Docks out of the way, don't you think X?

~XcaliburFX~ Says:   Yep, let's knock out those features and specs. Below are the features and specifications of the BlacX I received.
