 Description:

I always find myself looking for more storage space. At times I need it just long enough to back up someones files and then reload them on their system. Other times I'm looking for space to transfer files from one computer to another. For this an external hard drive enclosure always come in handy. Today we are going to be taking a look at the HornetTek Travel Lite External Enclosure.

 First Impression:

The HornetTek Travel Lite, much like the Travel Plus previously reviewed, comes packed in a standard retail box that showcases its main features on the front with a few images of the Travel Lite. On the rear of the package we find the specifications for the Travel Lite along with the features listed in several languages.

Upon opening the box we find that the Travel Lite is nestled by a cardboard insert and is firmly held in place by a foam upper layer. This should insure that the hard drive enclosure arrives at your door step without any damage during shipping. With the contents removed, we can see that the box contained the Travel Lite itself, the User Manual, the USB 2.0 Y-cable, the accessories bag, and a protective cover for the Travel Lite.

Although the overall looks of the Travel Lite are different from the previously reviewed Travel Plus, a lot of its features are the same. Probably the most noticeable feature is the short Pull-Out USB cable tucked in the end cap. The Travel Lite is the more compact and lighter version which should make it a little bit easier to handle on a daily basis when using it while traveling. The compact enclosure isn't going to be quite as easy to lug around when compared to the typical thumb / flash drive. The overall capacity of the Travel Lite will more than make up for the size. Choosing whether you're in need of a simple compact USB thumb/ flash drive, or a compact hard drive enclosure is going to be up to you and your personal needs for storage.

I just got it from fry''s today and I believe its on sale till 7/9/09 for $10 and you get a $10 mail in rebate, net cost $0 plus tax. Frys also happened to have a samsung 500gb laptop hd onsale for $80. Included instructions for installation was horrible. This review helped alot in that regard. I was wondering tho if abs cases would have problems with heat dissipation.

The ABS plastic will allow heat to pass through it and disipate. However, it''s not all that efficient at doing so. This is why I personally lean toward the aluminum hard drive enclosures. Most users are going to be using the drive as a backup device for files, heat really shouldn''t be to much of a problem.
