The RX81US arrived in retail packaging, that was primarily black. White text is used through out the box, with accent and Rosewill logo done in red. This is the first impressions section, and with that I have a gripe. The box has four highlight points on it on the front, lower right. side. They are, and I quote:
- Heavy Duty Aluminum
- NEON LED
- AUTO Ejection
- Front Panel Removerable
"Removerable"?? It is minor, but it still irks me to see a company selling a relatively simple product, a product in which there will not be *that* much info on the box about it... only to have a portion of that little bit of info not even printed correctly. It is an annoyance that I hope does not carry over to the inside of the box with either the manual or the drive unit itself.
The sides of the box are black with the red Rosewill logo, and the bulk of the device info is on the bottom panel.
- Standard USB 2.0 high speed transfer rate.
- Support Serial ATA. (USB + e-SATA)
- Aluminum HDD frame for easy installation.
- Crystal acrylic casing with blue & green LED illumination.
- Suitable for all 3.5" SATA HDD.
- All aluminum, to enhance heat dissipation.
- Crystal footstand for vertical style.
- Plug and play / hot swappable.
- OS support Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Vista /Mac OS 8.6 above.
On their web site they have a bullet point that is incorrectly applied to this model:
Not on this model. It may be screw-less to get into the unit, but installing the drive requires 4 screws to secure the drive, otherwise your drive is flopping around inside the aluminum container. Not good. :) Another erroneous entry on the website of this product is:
- Insert & Extract connection Via 22 pin direct hard drive connection
Uhm.... no. The interface inside the chassis is SATA, not 2.5 inch laptop IDE. Another QA concern. If you cant check your text and print, how good are you going to be with electronics? Just concerns here. Again, this is the First Impressions section, and if I was looking into purchasing this unit, the website and the box have typos and flat out wrong information that give me pause.
Opening up the box, you are greeted with the drive enclosure on the first level of the packing, and all of the accessories on the second level of the packing. The drive chassis was securely wrapped in bubble wrap, while the accessories were in a single plastic bag attached to an adhesive strip on the bottom level. The strip was used to keep the bag in one place.
Typos and errant web info aside, there is nothing outstanding about the packing of this device. It does the job adequately, and the bubble wrap around the chassis is effective at making sure the surface is not marred by carboard scratches while in transit. |
