Final Thoughts of the EnGenius ECS2512FP Multi-Gigabit Switch

The ECS2512FP is a good candidate for upgrading your home switch to get faster communication speeds and an even better candidate if you have PoE devices. With the advent of cheaper POE devices such as Access Points and ethernet-based security cameras, the EnGenius ECS2512FP would be a great addition to any network lacking POE as well as updating the per-port speeds.  EnGenius just announced their newest WiFi 6 access points ECW230S and ECW220S that support PoE so this switch would be a perfect fit. The four dual-mode SFP+ connectors really come in handy for high-speed devices like NAS or storage array. Keep in mind that SFPs will be needed on both ends. The ECS2512FP really is a good choice if you are going to be doing more with your network at home. The ECS2512FP is a feature-rich Layer 2 switch that has a lot to offer. And with the use of the EnGenius cloud,  device management feels like a breeze. Overall, cloud-based management worked extremely well.

ECS2512FP

The price of the EnGenius ECS2512FP Multi-Gigabit Switch is about 900$ USD. Sure it sounds like a hefty sum but you do get that step-up performance from the 1-8 2.5Gb ports and not to mention SFP+ ports that support 1 or 10 Gb connections and it’s a Layer 2 managed switch. Considering the price, when you look at where this switch is targeted, $900 is not a terrible price when approaching it from a small/medium business or a high-end home network side. EnGenius has to compete with the likes of Cisco, Juniper, Netgear, and D-Link, and similar switches are priced very very close together. If you require a PoE switch that has Multi-Gig support you should consider the ECS2512FP.
